memorable end to a weekend
Today (Sunday 23 Dec): Happy Birthday to Jasmine Loo!
went out with my family from morning til 4pm. Walked around OG and the Middle Road area. While mum and sis were looking at clothes, i spent my time walking around, looking at toys and cars. Makes me wan to revert to my childhood days once again. Was looking at wallets too cuz mine has been at least 1yr already. but sis reminded me though its old n abit worn, its still not spoilt and totally gone case yet. haha.. after resting for abt 15min at home, i changed and went out again to meet Jasmin, Keith Teo and MArcus at their church for the musical and also dinner. All in all, it was a reali nice evening and i reali enjoyed my time with them all.. appreciate their invitations to attend :) Also had a nice time talking with Keith's gf abt working in prison services. It was a short chat but and interesting one where we shared abit of experiences. Dinner was also nice chatting 3 their friends, Marcus, Keith and his gf (dun wanna risk misspelling her name here :x ) Dropped Keith, his gf and another of their frens at thomson for their drinks, i left for home. I would hav liked to join in the the later part of the evening to noe more of JAsmin's Marcus' and Keith's friends, but due to the time and also for me to hav a proper rest before a run early tmr morning, i decided i shldnt just go for 45min and then leave cuz it wun be very nice nor polite. Shall read the first chapter (for Day One) of my one Christmas present now :)
I hope God will carry her thru and her language can be mustered well and all before she goes off to Germany for SEP :)

weekend
question of sincerity
yesterday proved to be a day of super mixed feelings, the most of all days. The day started with work as usual, spending the time at office with my fellow VA officers. I had taken half day leave and it was to meet another friend. Since we'd agreed to only meet at 2.30, i left office at 2pm thereabouts. However, at the last min, literally, the last 15min, things were cancelled and i was given the reply "I cant make it today, sorry". My first reaction was of shock when i saw that sms while driving, and i almost hit the car in front of me. I never believed that such a thing would happen, just 15min before we were due to meet, with no clue whatsoever that this might happen. And tickets for Alvin and the Chipmunks and the performance at Mt.Faber have already been bought (not simply booked). but i told myself that it could have been something really really important that cropped up at the last min, hence blowing our meet away. I waited at PS for 2.5hours, from 2.30-5+, and after so long of waiting for a reply which never came, i jus made the decision of leaving the place. I wanted to wait somemore, but i just couldnt. I felt as if i'd wasted my time and day away. However, somehow, i still harbour the faith that it was something really important which caused the cancellation. Insincerity? I dont know.. at this moment, i dont want to come to any conclusions till i manage to find out what happened. This few days have been busy for my fren with projects, so i THINK it could be some last minute project thing that could have cropped up? i dunno. I think i deserve at least to know what was going on, after the sudden disappointment.
If someone agrees with u on something, but days later pulls back on that agreement, is that insincerity? u never know.. sometimes it seems to be so, but sometimes it could genuinely be something which cropped up and so it has to happen.
In the end, i ended up at Kyrin's place, and i went with her to take a look at the place, so as not to waste the paid-for tickets. It was a nice place, interesting, and we also took the time to have a nice chat about everything. And that brings me to think back again to something i have been thinking since early in the week. The question of how committed i shld be to something. Its not that i dont want to be committed, but over some past experiences, i dont dare to be too committed. To most, dating is the happiest thing and time, but for me, it dun seem so. That feeling of uncertainty harbours in me most often. Having talked to Kyrin, i also reaffirmed to myself that things need time, but some part of me also warns me against hoping too much, esp since there is a big difference which I cant do much about. I can only work on things, and let nature take its course.. cliche as it might sound, but some things just cannot be explained. I think Sam and Kyrin really makes a good couple, they understand each other perfectly, make time for each other, and they are never far from each others' minds, naturally. I envy them.. May they be together forever and for many many happy years to come.
Sunday: watched Nanking with Jasmin and her friend. It was a sad movie, and i think the saddest was listening to the ppl recounting their experiences, and looking at the actual clips taken from the wartime itself. We also spent sometime walking around, looking around vivo, chatting, looking at books etc.. it was a nice afternoon spent, and at 5+, i decided we send beth home, so that jasmin and her could have more time tog and continue talking more.. haha, and along the way, i blur-ly accidentally revealed that i was at Tecman the day before. So much for wanting to not reveal where i got the present and keep it a surprise til the moment i gave jas the present. grr how cock can i be? haa
Monday and Tuesday: mainly prep and prep for our in-camp Christmas celebrations on tues night.
Wednesday: mainly jus in office, and in the afternoon, headed back to sch to work on our pushbar til 8+. Was super drained then.. but during the time back at school, I learnt how to do welding! =) initially it was scary cos i was scared to be burnt by the flying arc and burning electrode, but i slowly got the hang of it. If i didnt have VA, i guess i would want to work on my welding skills more. Sam passed me a present from him and Kyrin and asked for my car keys to put into my car. It was a DVD of the LEs Miserables 10th Anniversary concert! Such dvds are hard to find on the market nowadays and only certain major stores carry them.. I wish one day Les Miserables will come to Singapore once more. Though i think it is a hope against hope. haha..

The guard said the rooms were cleaned by the cleaners every single day and so often used. so, could be with the SSC. gave up searching after awhile, the room was reali toooo clean =X oh man.. I know how u probably feel right now. went on then to meet the FSAE guys, n after tat met with ws to return the sentosa card. went home and slept at 10.15 before waking again at 11, having forgotten to do sth. haha, shows how much i can sleep n get easily awakened eh?

continue preping for my uniforms in the morning. caught Hero with Jas.. n had a nice time walking ard window shopping, n also bought wrapping paper n stuffs n she helped me wrap Sam's present.. now i hav an extra pair of sissors & one small roll of scotch tape. The movie was in Jap, so at first had a pretty hard time understanding, but gradually the picture came to me abt what the movie was about. TO think i was under the impression that it had something to do with the HeroS (with the 'S'). haha.. it was a great afternoon =) "thank you!"
after sending jas back, i went back to the Glass House. the journey onli took me 5min. cldnt believe it myself! was expecting a greatt jam on a sunday evening. had dinner with Sam, Kyrin, Ben and Xiaoping at The Glass House.. sup to be a surprise for SAm for his birthday. haa guess i din exactly lie too well yesterday when at Max's workshop. haha.. after dinner, the 4 of them went for a movie i think, i went home to do final packing for my stuffs n uniform for work tmr.

- A Great Reminder -
A philosophy professor stood before his class. He had some items on the table in front of him. When class began, he picked up a large empty mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with rocks about 2" in diameter.
He then asked the students if the jar was full. They agreed that it was. Then the professor picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into the jar. He shook the jar lightly. The pebbles rolled into the open areas between the rocks. He then asked the students if the jar was full. Again they agreed that it was. When the professor picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar the students laughed. The sand, of course, filled in everything else.
When pouring everything out and reversing the order of filling the jar by putting the sand into the jar first, there was no room for all the pebbles and rocks, even when shaking the jar.
"Now," said the professor, holding up the jar, "I want you to recognize that this is your life. The rocks are the important things in your life, your family, your partner, your health, your children - anything that is so important to you that, if it were lost, you would be nearly destroyed. The pebbles are the other things in your life that matter, your job, your house, your car. The sand is just that... the small stuff. The order of filling the jar applies the same way to your life. If you spend all your energy and time on the small stuff, you will never have room for the things that are important to you. So pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness.
Be with your family.... play with your children. Take time to get medical checkups. Take your partner out on a date..... dancing. There will always be time to go to work, clean the house, give a dinner party and fix the disposal. Take care of the rocks first.... the things that really matter.
Set your priorities. The rest is just sand."
here's something i received recently, not so sure the accuracy of it all.. it sounds logical to me so far ..
Do not pump full tank of petrol
Many of us are not aware that the petrol kiosk pump has a return pipe-line (in black ). When the petrol tank (in the car) reaches full level, there is a mechanism to trigger off the pump latch and at the same time a return-valve is opened (at the top of the pump station) to allow excess petrol to flow back into the sump. But the return petrolhas already pass through the meter, meaning you are donating thepetrol back to SHELL/ PETRONAS/ CALTEX/MOBIL. ......... Best Regards and Safe Driving
*Pumping Gas - Good to Know
I've been inpetroleum pipeline business for about 31 years, currently working for the Kinder-Morgan Pipeline here in San Jose , CA . We deliver about 4 million gallons in a 24-hour period from the pipe line; one day it'sdiesel, the next day it's jet fuel and gasoline. We have 34 storage tanks here with a total capacity of 16,800,000 gallons.
Here are some tricks to help you get your money's worth:
1.Fill up your car or truck in the morning when the temperature is stillcool. Remember that all service stations have their storage tanks buried below ground; and the colder the ground, the denser the gasoline. When it gets warmer gasoline expands, so if you're filling up in the afternoon or in the evening, what should be a gallon is not exactly a gallon. In the petroleum business, the specific gravity and temperature of the fuel (gasoline, diesel, jet fuel, ethanol and other petroleum products) are significant. Every truckload that we load is temperature- compensated so that the indicated gallonage is actually the amount pumped. A one-degree rise in temperature is a big deal for businesses, but service stations don't have temperature compensationat their pumps.
2. If a tanker truck is filling the station's tank at the time youwant to buy gas, do not fill up; most likely dirt and sludge in the tank is being stirred up when gas is being delivered, and you might be transferring that dirt from the bottom of their tank into your car's tank.
3. Fill up when your gas tank is half-full (or half-empty), because the more gas you have in your tank the less air there is and gasoline evaporates rapidly, especially when it's warm. (Gasoline storage tank shave an internal floating 'roof' membrane to act as a barrier between the gas and the atmosphere, thereby minimizing evaporation).
4. If you look at the trigger you'll see that it has three delivery settings: slow, medium and high. When you're filling up do not squeeze the trigger of the nozzle to the high setting. You should be pumping at the slow setting, thereby minimizing vapors created while you are pumping. Hoses at the pump are corrugated; the corrugations act as a return path for vapor recovery from gas that already has been metered. If youare pumping at the high setting, the agitated gasoline contains more vapor, which is being sucked back into the underground tank, so you're getting less gas for your money. Hope this will help ease your 'pain at the pump.
5. Do not top off your gas tank, when the pump shuts off, do not keep trying to add more gas. A friend who owns a gas station says that by doing this, you are actually giving the next customer a $1.00worth of gas. The gas you pump stays in the hose and never makes it to your tank........ ... good to know
hmm, how true is this? im not so sure myself..

Engin Camp 07 -- All Aboard!
tis is my OG Barbossa at Sentosa on Day 3 of Engin Camp, the afternn part. My favourite photo from the camp! okay, mayb i shld start from the beginning of day 1? haha
actuali, we started off going back to sch on sunday night, writing the names on the armbands for our OGs, and preparing the mascot. For the other houses, they did a super elaborate mascot, but us Pyrates? it was jus a flag.. heh. simple and sweet! =) nothing big nor incredible. Halfway thru that, we had to drive out to try to search for paint, in vain of course. it was already 9+ 10pm. everyone was closed. Shops that is.. at BeautyWorld. what came after was the briefing for councillors, and then sleeping time. Lucky enough to have Clara around, cos then we cld sleep in the rock gym! matresses were like waterbeds.. heh.
Monday, Day 1. Registration, ice breakers, the usual.. as craig says, the games are all senseless, but then again, its an orientation camp! how sensible can it be? the games that is.. haha. 5 guys 3 girls freshies, with 4guys and 3gal councillors. quite a small group? i guess we started off on a good note, everyone talking, not too quiet, though not exactly very noisy? haha. needed abit more 'poking' from us councillors. Afternoon spent at SRC courts for telematches. All the sabo-ing etc etc. Even me the camera man also went in together to be sabo-ed together with the OG, getting paint, flour, camo cream etc.. haha. All for the fun together! the demoralizer came when issac's nose was banged n fractured (we found out later) by another house ic (shall not name who, later he paiseh =P ) Brendan spent the afternoon from abt 4+ 5pm with issac at NUH, while i choked down my dinner and went down to NUH to wait with him and pick him up from abt 8pm to almost 10pm getting back to eusoff hall. All in all, that poor boy waited for close to 5hrs just to take an x-ray and listen to the doc talk for less than 5min. Glad he didnt miss SP night though (for the 1st night that is.) . It feels good to be on the 'other side' of the SP thingy. Being the one disturbing, not the 'disturbed'! hehe any freshies, if u read tis, pls dun kill me. i was disturbing our og gals n 3 guys most of the time.. but day one was mild, jus simple talking, laughing. It also proved to be a chance for me to interact with some fellow councillors whom we jus see around but never talk. Well, the start of 'hell week' for my skin. Im RED already. Went for supper at West Coast mac. Sherning's car squeezed dunno how many ppl, while i had 4 guys behind & another beside me.
Tues, pools games. Another funnyy day, all sorts of funny things in the pool. The usual pool games? n super hilarious, esp when the 'Ha Ha cards' came into the picture, then weird things started to appear. Lixiang's og doing the tokyo drift song for cheer, in the water! us tau-pok-ing Armeet, and our house playing around cos we found our own house ogs competing against each other time and again! Well, we din win much again today, but what the heck. Objective is for the freshies to have fun and bond! =) morning ended with drag queen. Tis yr quite mild.. last yr was more .. ... creative n open. hahaha. shall not comment more. Nonetheless, another great (but burnt) morning! our og guys r very lucky, they got a car to put their things in so tat they dun have to lug it around for fac walk. And dear Jamen broke my car record when he asked me to help him send the speaker n stuff over to LT6. I had to up my back seats so that my car became a two seater! Faculty walk, well, the lame games, all in the name of fun! making noise in Engineering blocks, running all over the place. Yan Ling! u're good at listening to instructions! though i sabo-ed her for a moment and made her get water-shot at. hehe.
MYstery night, its a scaled down version of fright night. It started at 8pm++. Going to different stations to gather 'clues' and try to 'solve' the mystery. Guys and gals paired up to walk in in twos to see n search for clues (while getting frightened of course =P ) From central lib rooftop to the tunnel, and in E3 blk. That was Sara's station, the sch-girl. It was supposed to be the scariest station, but i din go up to take a look. We spent like almost 2hrs waiting to go up. When the freshies were done, it just started to rain. Well, tis started a damp night, and it was already pretty late, and i was half dead already, though the og was generally still full of energy! they even wanted to play catching around LT7A! They ended up with the old old oolllddd game pepsi cola, jus when jamen called for Roy, Sherning and me to assist in the ferrying of the whole camp back to Eusoff Hall. Before that though, pizza was ordered, apparently on either the camp or comm (dunno who. But thanks!) 3am++, ferrying started. with 4 cars and 1 van going to and fro. My 2nd record for the car broken. At one point of time, i had 5 girls behind and 2 in the front seat! guys record is 4 or 5 at the back and 1 in front. my goodness.. heartpain for my suspension. Could feel the hard bang of it when i cleared the humps, but oh well.. objective was to get everyone back asap, to rest. Cos Sentosa's on the next day. goodness.. cant imagine i was still driving at 4am+! slept at abt 0430 that day.
Day 3. Sentosa day! woke up totally shaggged out. had to drag myself to wake up. At least i was on the matress tonight, not the hard bedframe, so it was a wee bit more comfortable. Though it was a squeeze with sherning and craig on the 2 joined-together matress on the floor. hehe. Sentosa games, dunno why, tis og seems to be able to play better and more active when they are more tired! we won more games today definitely. hahaha! and i tot i cld stay dry til at least the 4th or 5th game, but no. was sabo-ed by someone (gal in orange, i still rmb..one of the game masters or comm, something like that) to be dunked and mua-chee-ed by Ethan & Tsinli's group! my goodness.. cant even escape, they jus sneaked up behind me at only the 2nd station. grrrr. after that dun care liao, jus went to get wet and wet and ... even wetter. It was a great morning, we had the modified Frisbee game, those blind-folded water bomb games, some modified version of sissors-paper-stones game in the water, dunking of course, and another couple of games i cant remember. and tis ended with the house-level water-bomb war. this started off as pure fun at first, which then somehow became a wee bit nasty at first, but ended with truce, and whacking the comm members.. heh.
AFter lunch, round the island games. We all started to feel the tiredness starting to kick in. While some other groups were running for checkpoints, we jus relaxed and slowly walked from point to point..relaxing! jus have fun lor. 8stations, to collect 8 medallions as the 'points'.went to diffe places doing different things at each place, from the merlion fountation, to the dragon's trail walk, to the underwater world entrance. We completed abt 6 stations until time to exercise cut.

tis photo is an act cool one. pls dun kill me. haha.. im all Red already, and wearing last yr's o-week orange singlet doesnt help at all. haha. Those sunglasses? Brendan's Oakleys. arghhh.. temptation!!!
